How to prevent blood clots after a live broadcast session

Author: Chief Nurse Xie Xiaoya of the Department of General Medicine, Wenzhou People's Hospital. Health tips for streamers and sedentary workers to prevent thrombus risk from sudden exercise after prolonged sitting. Live streaming can often involve sitting for three to four hours at a time, and many streamers immediately work out after finishing their sessions to make up for the lack of physical activity. Healthcare professionals warn that prolonged sitting can easily lead to the formation of blood clots. If one then engages in sudden high-intensity exercise, especially if there are already latent blood clots in the body, it can cause these clots to dislodge, posing a risk of pulmonary embolism, which can be life-threatening in severe cases and may occur within a short period.

1. Sitting for long periods while streaming quietly invites the hidden risk of blood clots. Sitting for long periods can slow down blood circulation in the lower limbs, leading to thickening and stagnation of blood, which significantly increases the risk of deep vein thrombosis. In the early stages, thrombosis may only present as aching and slight swelling in the calves, often mistaken for fatigue and therefore overlooked. This is one of the most insidious health risks associated with prolonged inactivity.

Warning for High-Risk Behavior: Individuals with hidden blood clots should avoid sudden intense exercise after prolonged sitting. For individuals who have already developed latent blood clots, sudden intense physical activity after prolonged sitting can easily lead to the dislodging of these clots. Thrombi that are adhered to the blood vessel walls may break loose due to sudden exertion, allowing them to travel through the bloodstream and block critical areas such as the lungs or heart, resulting in embolism. Pulmonary embolism, in particular, has a rapid onset and a very high mortality rate. The pattern of "sitting all day and then suddenly moving vigorously" poses a significant risk for streamers encountering blood clots.

3. Do not take these physical signals lightly. If the following symptoms appear, be sure to seek medical attention promptly: 1) Swelling and pain in one calf; 2) Warmth and darkening of the skin on the calf; 3) Unexplained chest tightness, shortness of breath, or palpitations, which may highly indicate a precursor to a pulmonary embolism caused by a dislodged blood clot. Immediate medical attention is necessary!

4. While live streaming, remember these tips to protect your blood vessels. To protect your blood vessels while live streaming, pay attention to these four points: get up and move for 5-10 minutes after every hour of sitting; during breaks, flex your toes and rise on your toes to promote blood circulation; after streaming, stretch and take a slow walk to avoid vigorous activity right away; drink plenty of water, don't hold in urine, and try not to stay up late.
